Cartegena Colombia

img_0234img_0235img_0236Left Medellin Tue AM and headed for Cartegena, took the whole day, the roads are hectic, many trucks and busses on narrow winding roads. the scenery is really great, many different micro climates. Cartegena is a bit grotty and looks dodgy, the old city and fort are something to see. I was really fortunate with my timing as I managed to find a boat going to Panama tomorrow, it is a 50 ft , 2 mast and we can load my bike. It takes 5 days with a few stops on various islands, basically a sailing cruise to Panama and it will be nice to have a break from the bike and just chill. So hopefully it will be good . Colombia has been really good and is definately worth visiting. So half way through my journey and looking foreward to the second part. More from Panama.

Bruce if your bike is going to be on the deck then that sea salt is going to hammer it. We ended up stopping for a week to completely disassemble and clean up our bicycles when we did that on a sailing / biking trip up to Bazaruto and northern Moz. Recommend a daily coat of Q20 even if you manage to cover it with plastic.

Nice to see a few pictures, some more and you will be putting ‘Getaway’ to
shame. I would like to see a picture of the boat; hope the bike survived the ordeal. Good luck. Dad

    Hi Bruce

I loved Cartegena when I visited it when Mary was living in Bogota. It was so pretty and colourful and friendly compared to Bogota. Sounds like you are having am amazing time. Enjoy and travel safely.

    Hey Bruce
Watch out for those floating boating things… they can be adictive!!!! Can’t believe you’re already heading towards Panama… FANTSTIC!!
I have 1 week left before we set off on our Round Britain sailing adventure..
Enjoy the tropics and hope your bike doesn’t get too upset having to weather out the salt while you catch a tan….
    Catch up soon,
    Cath

Hey Bruce…not sure how much of the news you have seen but they are advising against all non-urgent travel into Mexico because of a serious outbreak of swine flu. Not sure how this will effect your travel plans but it sounds quite serious. Keep us posted.

Good to see your trip is going well and on track

Yip – Mexico have been hit by a new pandemic flu –
Sounds quite bad – as face masks seem to be standard issue in Mexico City

Cactus plant juice apparently helps boost the immune system

    Safe travels
